“My books are my wings!”

“My books are my wings!” These were the words of Alexandre Parafita in his recent visit to Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura. CIV is a member of Rede de Bibliotecas do Concelho de Loulé (Loulé Libraries network) which invited this writer to come to all the council schools. In the visit Alexandre Parafita presented to 1º Ciclo students his books Teodósio, o menino guerreiro (an episode of Portugal’s history), Contos de Boas Contas Uma Andorinha no Alpendre.

The writer spoke about his journey in literature, the role that reading and creativity play as a fundamental element for an "inner growth" . He also clarified some doubts. Today, Alexandre Parafita plays, in addition to other professional roles, the one of an university teacher. He never forgets the beginning of his career as a primary teacher. "I started writing as a compensation for not having a school to teach," he confessed.

Today he develops his work around Communication, teaching and literature. He is a journalist and a researcher and also a member of the research team which is in charge of compiling the Archives and catalogue of the Portuguese Legends and is vice-president of  Observatório da Literatura Infanto-juvenil (OBLIJ) – Juvenile Literature Observatory. A big part of his work  is included in the National Reading Plan (NLP), in addition to integrating textbooks of various levels of education.
